Youth Park Skate Park

As some of us may already know, Youth Park Skate Park is currently undergoing a little renovation. For nostalgia's sake, here are a few shots taken of the park just before the "upgrading" began.

There's only one main skatepark in s'pore? Tats the youth skate park right?

No other indoor ones ha...?
BORING. In singapore, skating cannot flourish. Anyway, i always go East Coast.

Just a word from an ex-skateboarder in regards to skateparks in Singapore:

First off, the main reason why there are no public skate parks in Singapore is due to space.

Next, a problem which might well superceed the above given one, is the legal problems a public skatepark will give. If a skater hurts himself bad, E.G unrecoverable injuries/death, the govenment is liable to be sued. And as such, they would rather not go through the trouble in the first place.

For "private" skateparks (those that charge an admission rate), the main problem is the expenses for it. First off, buying/renting space will be a problem. In Singapore, it's expensive. Next, after getting the space, you would want a good skatepark designer, probably from overseas to help you design it. That would cost too. And that added to the actual construction of the park, any maintance fees and what not really makes creating a skatepark for profit not a feasible idea.

Yes, anyone who is a skater will surely think about building a skate park one day, one big, with half-pipes and lots of rails and essentialy, a skatepark with all the works. But sad to say, a normal Singaporean will never earn enough to afford one.

I am just estimating costs here, but to create a decent skatepark, it would cost AT LEAST half a million, but a more realistic cost would be at least a million.

Would the government spend such an amount to keep skates off the streets?

concrete skatepark?siao...when the concrete chips it gets troublesome alreadi..when you cement it back it will chip again..and when the bikers come you know yu dont need to come back the next week...i miss the flooring last tyme man..it had so good grip and smooth when yu roll on it...whu's idea was it to paint it with NIPPON anyway??surely dint plan it right...i still prefer the ol' skatepark

well i gotta agree with you skateboarder but thats currently the best option we have. we either gotta live with it or travel to other countries to despise it. either way its your option. my option ( and also cuz i have no money to travel ) is to just stick to it.

Youth Park Stinks. THe ground isn't that slippery. I've seen slippier ground in other skateparks not in SG. You just have to deal with it. The ramps suck, The park goes down hill. Its not fun, it dosen't flow, Nothing for beginners. Singapore should build an entire concrete skatepark with real life street simulation. I really enjoy parks in the US. They should make a stage like the one in Youth Park that is legal to skate in.

The floor is abit slippery tho...if not it will be great..the startbox is harder to play now due to lesser space for approached...the NEW COURSE which FAZ designed would be back in approx.2weeks!!! hope they dun clean the floor so often...slippery like mad!!! BEST SKATEPARK IN SINGAPORE !!
