INSASS (Inline Skating Association of Singapore) has been very busy in the last year creating alliances with the National Parks Board pushing for more skate parks to be built in Singapore. So far we have the Japanese Garden Skatepark where UltraChallange was held, and the bedok skate park in construction right now.
How are all these new and FREE skateparks going to impact skaters in Singapore? And what is to become of bishan skate park?
The feedback was that the Japanese Garden Skatepark wasn't constructed with the aggro inline skater in mind, but more for skateboarders. True or not, this I have yet to see for myself. The Bedok skatepark on the other hand has the first concrete bowl in Singapore, a shallow one with no coping apparently.
It was brought up at the last INSASS annual general meeting on the 28 April 2002 that perhaps more aggro skaters should be involved in the construction and planning process. To my dissapointment, Fred Loh the current chairman had a rather negative attitude towards it, repeating that they had already tried to, and that the skaters had a tendency to be enthusiastic at first, but drop out later. Personally I feel that the committee should try and conduct some self evaluation and figure out why skaters tend to drop out after a while. Could it be because of the spate of internal politics and constant bouncing of irrelavant emails back and forth within the committee during the last year? Hmm...
To give them some credit, the INSASS committee has worked very hard at first to form the committee, and then getting the skateparks built. Many hours of work, letter writing, and meetings with various gov boards and contractors must have taken place. This is a commendable effort especially since all the members are all working day jobs as well.
Back to the mushrooming skateparks, perhaps there is hope now, with the construction of more skateparks to develop a higher standard of aggroskaters in Singapore to compete in perhaps the next X-games!
Posted online by on 1 May '02Guys,BUILD MORE SK8PARKS! At least 1 in every estate.Build 1 in sengkang coz i live there.By the way, where iz the jap gdn sk8park?
Posted by SkaterBoy on 7 Dec '06 11:52 AMi think more skateparks SHOULD be build coz people who 1 2 sk8 must go ALL the way 2 bishan or bedok 2 sk8.you guys should build 1 in sengkang.
Posted by SkaterBoy on 6 Dec '06 3:33 PMyEp. no skate parks. other ppl scold us for skating @ other places eg. blocks wherever.
And the sk8park @ jap gardens is too small.
Build bigger and better skateparks
singapore sucks with like onli 2 skateparks now it sucks i wan to migrate to us
Come on man build more skateparks. One in each estate. And why is the sk8park in theck whye so lousy. The floors have friggin holes that makes us injur ya noe? Theck whye is the closest to my house so make it bigger and put in more stuffs la so we dont need to travel so far. Haiyo. Build one in Yew tee. That would be great. And do a super duper cool indoor sk8park in woodlands, chua chu kang, bukit gombak and other place so we won't have to worry during rainy days. People there have to travel far for a great park. Please man. We can't live without sk8boarding. We are in need for sk8parks.
Posted by fad182 on 15 Jul '06 8:23 PMI STRONGLY AGREE TO BUILD MORE PARKS... better if everywhere... i mean like woodlands got one... marsilling got one... angmokio got one... something like that lah...

Posted by naRmi dHOm on 5 Aug '04 4:59 PMwats up dude i think that u peeps should build a skatepark around the new areas like choa chu kang u noe. i went there one day n found a lot of potential pros there in choa chu kang... so now i do live there hence i was thinkin that maybe there should be a aggro park or something. hope u people could build one there. thanks a whole lot.
Posted by skatepunk on 9 Mar '04 9:30 PMwhere are the skate park??
wat is their charges??
I'm very please with the association efforts but there's something that is missing.
I noticed there ain't any skate parks in the northern region. I stay in Woodlands and being a very active skater myself, I need 2 travel all the way to ECP or Bishan just to find a place where I can skate without worrying about pedestrians.
The skating scene is getting bigger in Singapore and I've also notice a fast growing number of skaters(inline/skateboarding) in the woodlands area. I would really appreciate it if Woodlands or Sembawang can be the place for the next aggro skatepark before some one is injured and the police decided to step in.
The skate parks currently build are really badly design, no offence but it's true. I certainly do hope the designer himself did aggro before.

Posted by jamie on 27 May '03 5:21 PMThe Best solution for vandalism is to built more skatepark in every estate in singapore.. coz we bikerz, skaterz, bladerz and skooterz love to practice our stunts in the skateparks.. yeah try to bulit the skatepark's items with woodward.. Thanks.. and i Hope you take my msg..
Posted by hougang ave 8 Pro_skooterz on 5 May '03 3:41 PMdo a standard skatepark. at least have a funbox
I think tat we should have a few more GOOd quality sk8park( I mean GOOD) There is so0000 few sk8parks in S'pore......!!!And we must travel all the way to Bishan or Bedox to skate , I think that it IS crappy and is a waste of our time and money on it..............At least , that they should c0ncrete skate parks for us to skate in........I may be a bit better than a beginner,,,,,,,,, so that i can learn tricks........................... Anyway , a gd sk8pk would be better.......................and in good locations too.
Posted by PyRo on 26 Apr '03 7:56 PMbmx, skateboard and inline need a place to practice. so built a skatepark at a land that is not in use.
Posted by rms on 4 Apr '03 12:34 PMwhat we need is a good i say GOOD skate park around holland village or ghim moh. we need one like a mix between all the skate parks so far such as orchard bishun and bedok. And we need another one which is indoors not with aircon but big fans.if this was possible we wood get more pro skateboarders coming and doing demos for us. also if we had these skate parks less people would be skating where we are not suppost to.. so come on build it for us, build it for the skaters, build it for singapore.
Posted by matthew adamberry on 2 Apr '03 11:21 PMbuilt a skatepark at each estate in singapore so we do not have to travel so far.singapore suck built a lot of useless building for what built lah skatepark kaniina
we just need one skate park of good quality, we don't really need so many basic and crappy skate parks all over a small country
Posted by sean on 30 Mar '03 12:37 PMhey what about the girl skaters here, im a grrl skater and when i go skatin all the guys are like hoggin the sets!
Posted by american skater chic on 27 Mar '03 6:54 PMimprove the ramps at bishan skatepark. there is holes at the funbox and the halfpipe.

How Cum the Japanese Garden skatepark is always close.. i mean i lived near it.. but each time i want to skate there... its alwayz close... n well u dun expect us to climb over the fence n get caught by cops or the authorities do ya..? WHEN WILL THE CONSTRUCTION BE OVER? i dun even see any construction work being done..
Posted by Cabellero on 22 Jan '03 9:06 PMripping it up in any kind of skate park is good.as long as youve got one be creative with the lines you can take exploit them fully. i live in japan and cant even get to a skatepark!!!!!!
Posted by fat boy on 22 Jan '03 5:29 PMi realli had nothing to say.... e govt alway wanting to prom us to pick up sport... we hav soccer field, swimming pool but not a good skate park. seriously speaking e park we hav now real suck...still want us to pay 4 it... tat low quality kind of park. GUYS U SHOULD ASK THOSE PROS(internation pro skates n ramp builders) FOR ADVICE N FEEDBACKS . N finally hav a good place to ride or skate means less trouble 4 us n cops wouldn't be seeing us anymore....
Posted by ron on 23 Sep '02 10:22 PMwe're hoping so much for these parks but is it really gonna come up? i really hope... i'm a beginner and that sloping at YP is shitty... oh and they shud allow graff on all skate parks... so they do look like whad they shud look like...haha
Posted by Trip on 14 Aug '02 10:32 PMThey should build at least two skatepark in each estate.
Posted by Zart on 29 Jul '02 1:16 AMi think that even if they cant build skate parks in every major side of singapore at least they could build one that is centralised and is of good quality. so that we dont have to waste half the day travelling adn i think thaey should make public transport free cos its a pain in the ass to keep refilling my bus card and wasting my valuable money.
Posted by anon on 22 Jul '02 12:15 AMthey shld build skateparks on the eastside..there are rollers here too.. and its sort of far for us to get to a skatepark like YP,JapGdn or wherever... and they've gotta build skateparks with brains cos they made a 'sloping' one at YP which makes it hard to accelerate !
Posted by J-rOcC on 5 Jun '02 8:17 PMI agree with my backside. It told me "puuuuttttttttt", and I think what it says is true, we just need "puuuuttttttttt".
Posted by CD Writer on 4 Jun '02 1:44 PMI agree with Lucius. there is no pt that we have skate parks dotted all over singapore but we only got basic stuff in the skate parks. Everywhere else has better skate parks. Bigger Half pipes, bowls , ramps , 1/4 pipes. you name it we only got a smaller version of international standard. so i really see no pt in having so many skate parks when each one will never be able to improve your skills. Keep it at this rate and Singapore will eventually lose out. Or don't tell me we have to go overseas to improve?
C'mon get real.
how to go to japanese garden skatepark ???
any bus from errm anywhere ??? directions ???? and GREAT JOB LINUS LUCIUS DANIEL !!! keep it up great to see ppl like u with such errm what the word to use .. well anyway tats some cool tees u guys made .!!! keep it up and don't give up and whatever u are doing ! never give up !
Posted by jc on 8 May '02 12:04 AMdoes anyone got any idea of what is the likely number of aggro skaters in spore. perhaps a poll/registration could be done on this site and hopefully with concrete figures, our voice would be heard by INSASS for once!
Posted by Soul on 6 May '02 12:14 PMI'll second that. I really much prefer cement parks, i hope we'll have some good ones to skate in.
Posted by (O_o) nickpan on 5 May '02 5:07 PMwhat i think we need is quality not quantity
