The ELEMENTS Hip Hop Graffiti party at Bishan Skate Park on the 18th May seems to be quite happening. I interview roadburn who is part of the people behind this event to find out more.

Hi roadburn, so wats up! what is this i hear about a Hip Hop Graffiti party at Bishan Skate Park? Can you tell us more about it?

Hi Nick! Yeah, the party will be called ELEMENTS, and there will be lots happening on the 18th of May 2002 at the bishan skate park. We will have our local MCs(rappers), aggro skaters, skateboarders, B-boys(breakdancers), graffiti artists, a really excellent rap rock band from Singapore American School, guest DJ J-Style and even more!

Why is skateline involved? i thought they only supported recreational skaters and 5 wheelers who wear spandex and have that weird arm movement when they skate.

LOL! Well, yeah the emphasis in Skateline used to be on recre and speed skaters, but now that more aggro skaters have joined the Skateline, you can expect to see more attention given to aggro skaters. The bishan skate park is now also being run by Skateline, and more events are also in the pipeline to make the skate park an even better place to hang out!

Mustn't forget the Tampines Central CC Youth Group too, which also has a sub-committee involved in the planning of this event.

So whats with the name? Why is it named "ELEMENTS"?

We decided to call it that, because the event combines elements that make up the soul of Singapore's skater culture today, the majority of the aggro skater population anyway. Plus, we thought the word ELEMENTS sounded good too :)

Who is gonna be there?

You bet all our regular skate park skaters will be there, and loads of people from the local hip hop community. It's gonna be one big skaters party!

Whats so Hip Hop about the party?

Well, rap and hip hop music will rule the night thanks to DJ J-Style and the rest of the performers. But even if you're not all that into hip hop, there will be lots of visual treats by B-Boys and skaters.

Who is Art Core Graffix?

They're a team of experienced graffiti artists who have made quite a name for themselves, and took part in the graffiti event at the Youth Park about 2 weeks ago.

I know that there are a few amongst us that are into graffiti, but can we do that in Bishan Skate Park?

Yup, on that day, we'll have an area for those into graffiti to show off their stuff, and maybe challange Art Core too!

Okay so on that day, should i wear my normal skate gear there? or issit like a nice jeans and button shirt night out at orchard kinda party?

Anything you're comfortable in is fine :)

There seems to be a lucky draw, so what can i stand to win?

Yes, do look out for our acoustic alt-rock & blues gig sometime in June.
