The good old days

Have you ever dreamed of the good old days of skating, when skating was so pure and fun that u didnt even care about competitions or skating to just compete with each other.

I myself personally miss the skating when i started out 6 years ago. It was a time of lighting trs, tarmacs, fattys & majestics. Somehow i do pity the new kids. They havent been through what we've been through to just understand how our skating is like. Kids nowdays are either friendly or nasty.

But im on my lucky stars, rarely do i meet nasty kids. I just tell them in order to enjoy skating, u do need to have fun. I do remember this kid asking me how to get sponsored. All i did was just shrugged and asked him to skate for the fun of it, and if u get spotted, lucky u.

But now i shall just go on skating and making friends. cuz skating is always fun. i love skating. how bout u.

Heheh, me circa 1997. Lighting TRS, Alien Workshop pants!!!! w00t!

I Need a copy of Hoax 2, Anarchy Across America. The copy I have is dead and I am suffering suffering from withdrawal without my beloved movie. If anyone knows anyone who has an unwanted copy please get in touch.

I remember back in the day of the Hoax, and Hoax 2. When I found that the owner of 50/50 took my eldest sister's virginity years before. When senate was sued for all their packaging. My set of Randy "Roadhouse" Spizer anti-rocker wheels, in the crayola box, and my mom stealing my 976 sippered hoodie... still haven't see it since!

bitch

Anyone remember the misty flip? Rise Above, Cement, Medium, Pawn, 976 Skate Launderings? How about BOSS bearings, CDS Detroit, the K2 Fatty, the original Lightning TRS? Or Mad Beef? The Hoax, Hoax II, Hoax 3 and 4 (4 was the last one I watched ~ 1997). T-bone TV?

Anyone recall the whole hip hop revolution in skating, all thanks to the original wigger, Josh Petty.

What ever happened to Matty Mantz, Randy "Roadhouse" Spitzer, or Chris Edwards?

and who can forget..

ROCK AND ROLL SKATEPARK at PETAIN ROAD !!

Posted by TRS on 10 Sep '03 9:46 PM

the good 'ol days..
I started in 93 back when i was 14 and rollerblade was still under prince..

remembered drilling holes on my TRS to fit the CDS soul plates, using SENATE metal grind plates to do curbs (i still think it's miraculous) and watching Local Demo's of the old team rollerblade (calvin, keith, JOHN).. monday, wednesday, friday North entrance national stadium for teamn rollerblade training..

Can't believe people actually once used Macroblade ES's to do rails !

those days ROCKED!

err sorry for the R(A) ass shot of that pic, haha. i'm thinking of having an old school gallery, just need to send me, raihan an email of just 2 pics with a recommended size of 640x480. if u cant get it that big, its ok. anyone with me?

Posted by Raihan on 10 Sep '03 6:10 AM

aah no wonder hence the name urbanplayground, the area where i live, also has this playground that i skate for as long as i remember. haha also dubbed 'playground'. lol. altho i dont know about whether blk14 is still around. the playground at my place has been renovated to accomodate metal curbs so that bikers and skateboarders dont thrash it.

Posted by Raihan on 10 Sep '03 6:08 AM

Wah lau, very nostalgic. I started to really skate in 95, thats when my bro bought the very first Daily Bread Mag... i was about to go into hockey, but aggressive seems so so much better.

Was skating with the east side ppl at that time, i wonder what they are doing now. Was most of the time at Blk 14, but we called it "Playground" back in those days... its also partially why this site has the name urbanplayground.

Hey, do post all your memories here... very good topic.

Those were the days....its funny cos i was watching HOAX 2....brooke, brian smith, b love and arlo....and i was wondering if anyone still watches the old school stuff anymore...i thought that it would be interesting for skaters to see how the sport and especially the "Royale" was starting to take shape as early as the mid-1990s. But whatever....I was reading "Daily Bread" and Brooke Howard Smith said..." The only things that you take from skating are F***ed up knees and Good Friends". So....skate hard and for as long as you can cos this is as good as it gets.

Posted by Prior_2 on 30 Aug '03 1:08 AM
